Here are more pictures on boathouses of Tasik Kenyir. I received a few emails asking about the boathouses. Effectively, a typical boathouse in Lake Kenyir is a boat, usually one that has been retired from the open ocean use and been modified into a floating, mobile house on water.

Some boathouses on Lake Kenyir are designed and fitted with all the right fittings to make anglers smile from ear to ear. Because the lake is a popular fishing haunt for many, it is not surprising to see boathouses with no railings on the side!

The above boat has been modified with fishing rod ‘holders’ on the whole side. While this may seem like a dream come true, it may well be a nightmare for groups with young children. Even for adult, a playful push can end up with someone struggling in the water. And mind you, waters in Lake Kenyir can be as deep as a hundred feet.

En. Hassan, my boat contact in Pengkalan Gawi told me that owning a boathouse in Kenyir is easy but maintaining the ‘boat’ is a totally different matter. The boats somehow always takes in water (rain and leakages), the owners have to be constantly keep an eye out to ensure that their ‘vessel’ doesn’t go down. Below is a fine example:

So, if you ever decide to hire a boathouse for a holiday in Lake Kenyir, make sure you call the boatman a day or two before your actual arrival date to make sure that your holiday plan is still floating.

Kitchens are always simple. Basic utensils are provided and if you plan to do a lot of cooking, maybe bring some extras to make sure you have everything you need. Keep the food halal as most of the boat operators are Muslims.

If you do plan to rent a boat house, make sure you do it in advance, especially during peak season. They range from RM800 to RM1200 per night with most maximum carrying capacity around 10 passengers.

If you are lucky, some boathouses have kayaks and small boat onboard.

What is cost in low season?

  • Keong

It may be slightly cheaper but I doubt it will be much. Probably a hundred ringgit maybe? Have to call and ask.
Other options, if you are a small group is to hire a speed boat and get it to drop you at a campsite. The boat will be back to pick you guys up after a few days. Hope that helps.

    Hi Keong,

I called En. Hasan the owner of the boathouse mentioned by u in this web and asking about the kayak and he said his boathouse does not kayak. Do you know any contact number of boatman that have kayak. Do this boatman supply safety jacket and do we need to pay for that jacket? En. Hasan said his boathouse do not have fan. It must be very hot then. Do you think we should bring our own fan?

  • Keong

Hi Yang…the kayaks are our personal items. No need to bring a fan actually. During the day, you ought to be swimming!!
    Sending you an email.
