A sandy beach with cool waterfall breeze, what more can one ask for?
We finally arrived at the inner Kenip waterfall after an hour plus of walking through the jungle. The trail opens up to a wide sandy area with the waterfall blowing a gentle cool breeze into my face. Not the most spectacular waterfall but definitely one of the best sites for a group BBQ picnic!

Such a nice day for paddling…right up until we arrive at the campsite
Here are some pictures of Ulu Muda when I went kayaking there with Nadir. While the water levels have risen considerably, the lake is stunningly beautiful. Nadir, who was at the lake a few months back before the rainy season started was astonished at how much the flooding have changed landscape.

Nadir busy bushcrafting
This kayaking trip to Ulu Muda dam is probably more bushcraft inspired than anything else. While I have been trying to learn and trying out bushcrafting, Nadir seems to have it built into his genes. Both of us tried our hands on a few projects, some turned out okay, some better left unsaid.

A trip that took months to plan, the two of us finally paddled the Ulu Muda dam
We have been planning for a kayaking trip to Ulu Muda dam in Kedah for months. There were endless correspondence of email between myself and Nadir about logistics, equipment and other planning works. Well, it finally happened. 2 friends paddling kayaks on a 5 days exploration trip into the Ulu Muda dam. Nadir by the way is the guy behind what I consider Malaysia’s best outdoor gear retailer. Check out his online shop at Outdoor Dynamics!

A really beautiful, almost untouched river near Rawang
Somewhere at the foothills near Rawang, we chance upon a small, fast flowing stream. There we no trails heading into the stream from the roadside, which can only mean that it is relatively undisturbed. Meun and I decided to head back there one weekend just to explore it a bit more. It turned out to be surprisingly good day.

Some of the dedicated Reef Check volunteers
The visibility during my dive at Pulau Redang was so far the best I’ve experienced in Malaysia islands. Well, not that I’ve dived a lot. Belle and I did substrate survey at Paku Kecil where we count the hard & soft corals, sponges, Nutrients Indictor Algae (NIA) & others. There were many NIA at this site, which is not a good sign. Except for some Trivallis and Fuscillia, I didn’t get to see much of other fish as our heads were down most of the time doing substrate survey. However, what I like about doing substrate is you pay more attention to the micro stuff.

My favourite - Nemo the clown fish
Come to think of it, it was 8 years ago that I last set foot on the beautiful Pulau Redang. I don’t think Redang needs much explanation, unlike my last Reef Check trip to Pulau Aur.

Dry river bed exposing rocks makes up part of the final 1km walk to Rainbow Waterfall
The last 1km walk into the Rainbow waterfall consists of rocky (dry) river bed and narrow jungle trail. We moved really slowly through the rocky riverbed. One wrong move would result in a twisted ankle and even a fall that could knock us out. Worse still, our vehicle is 8km away!

One of them rivers on the way to Rainbow waterfall
Rainbow waterfall or Air Terjung Pelangi is located near the quite town of Sg. Lembing in Pahang. The tiny water droplets from this high waterfall create a ‘rainbow’ effect when the sunrise rays hits it…hence Rainbow waterfall. This romantic phenomenon has attracted many visitors from as far as Singapore and has in recent times been a popular get away site for many local Malaysians as well.
John and myself were heading to a remote area in Pahang to re-trace an old communist trail when due to safety reasons, that plan had to be cancelled. So, we decided to drive to Sungai Lembing and pay this waterfall a visit. Another tick on the waterfall list.

There is a river, very close to the Belukar Bukit park near Kuala Berang that has left me mesmerized. The truth is, I have been thinking a lot about this place.

Beautiful river of Malaysia
Driving through Belukar Bukit, we saw a tiny unpaved access road to the side and decided to explore it. We didn’t get far as the road seems to come to an abrupt end. Leaving our vehicle, we decided to do some exploration on foot
